Method 12

I am very glad I took the time to complete this course. Maybe it is age - we can call it whatever we like - we get use to how we do things and sometimes venturing out is uncomfortable. I feel I have touched on new technology, learned new words and experienced each method just enough to get my feet wet and to wet my mind to possibilities. The short videos were very helpful in explaining things - somewhat like video for dummies 101. This was just enough to get the point across, enough not to overwhelm, and enough to instill a comfort and want to continue exploring.

Method 11

I can see for elementary a podcast would be a good tool - kind of like a newspaper - to send daily or weekly updates on school events. It could be heard from home as well as from school. It makes one think - or wonder - could this be used for students out ill to get current assignments.

Interesting possibilities.

Method 10

I find this option of communicating interesting. Could be a good for a group of students to work on a project from home - a finished product could be an interesting piece.

Being able to link it is a nice addition.

Method 9

Using the chat method I find when there is more than two people it almost gets like people interjecting in the middle of everyone elses conversation. By the time you type something, someone else has already said something and you begin to feel like you are running after the conversation. With skype the delay is a little bit of an issue, but is very good for visual conversation and seems more real time than chat.

I can see chat being a good tool for the library to have a one on one with a customer who cannot get to the library - such as a student is homebound and needs information.

Method 8

Some things that come to mind with the option of social networking are:

- I can see how you can be tracked easily
- another way to more gossip or opinion than reliable usage
-I question could a regular web site do the same if options were added to do these thing
-if you are a person who does not get on the web alot with myspace, etc. you would miss good or bad information = this seems only good if it is used regulary

Method 7

Social bookmarking could have advantages - I can see where it could broaden what I have personally found and give me other options to look at. This in turn will broaden what I am able to give to my students as resources. This is a plus.

One thing I did not see discussed was is it possible to undo someones tags. If we are only able to add and not have to worry about anything being undone this would be a useful tool in the work market and for students who are researching a topic.

Method 6

I used this YouTube post with my students:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3ZHPJT2Kp4

This is about Cookie Monster going to the library and how is directed on what the library has.

Method 5

This was fun - finding pictures to personalize the blog.

I can see where this would be great for the library to post pictures of areas, events, etc. to keep patrons informed.

Method 4

RSS interesting concept.

Some things come to mind: when you let everything come to you what all are you letting in?

Looking at the Dallas News - it was interesting to read news almost up to the minute and see news from the past. It does seem somewhat limiting as it only seems to share the main stories and doesn't let you look at the paper as you would if you had it in your hands.

Interesting concept for the library - could be a interesting tool for someone using this as a resource to gather up to the minute information on current issues in the immediate vicinity or the world.

Method 3

So much comes to mind when reading this information about Cloud Computing. The major thing for me is the safety issue at this time. Nothing on the web when it is out there is safe from hackers and if you put everything out there you would be open to anyone for anything. What price do we pay for convenience? There are good options with one thinks of using the "Cloud", but to put everything out there is not there for me at this time - personally.

In the library having open access from places to access the library and its sources would be a useful tool. I can see where that could boost library use and could be a very useful tool for students doing reports and just wanting information about resources.

Methods 1 and 2

Working through this is somewhat like learning a foriegn language - a bit of a struggle and you wonder as you go through things just how much you will use this and will you be successful? It truly humbles one to put oneself out there to learn new things at an age when you almost feel comfortable in your skin.

#2

Working through this is opening a new understanding to new ways to communicate and what might be useful for later use in lessons. What will be the value of this is yet to be seen. How will I integrate this knowledge - yet to be seen. New ways to access information - yet be be seen.
